BROADBAND INTERNET

Some reasons why it’s worth having:-

1.   Software downloads and updates – increasingly software is delivered over the internet and much Microsoft software relies on this for updates, patches, bug fixes. These are big files that you don’t want to spend hours passing over a modem or 64k ISDN link.

2.   Entertainment – MP3 files of decent quality are large and take for ever to download on a modem line.

3.   Streaming – radio and video run smoother at higher quality and you’ve got bandwidth left for other stuff

4.   Productivity – no more “head in hands” waiting for the images to appear or the page to build – surf at speed

5.   New content – special websites from the BBC and others aimed at utilising your broadband connection, example at http://www.freeserve.com/broadband/default.htm

6.   Einstein – the faster you travel the slower you age!

7.   Cost – an “Anytime” dialup account costs about £14/month and a BT line costs at least £10/month, so Broadband ADSL actually has lower running costs than a modem on a 2nd phone line.
